A Different Idea For An iPad Keyboard With A Trackpad
According to The Information Apple is working on a new iPad keyboard with a trackpad.
Ever since Apple announced iPadOS with support for Bluetooth mice there have been rumors and speculations about some sort of a trackpad for the iPad.
Brydge has already announced such a device. It should start shipping late April.
But that's not what I want or think Apple is working on. I don't see the iPad turning into a traditional laptop or a Surface.
How about a new kind of keyboard that is also the trackpad? To better show you I made a quick mockup video (on the iPad with LumaFusion):
The idea isn‘t to fully replicate a mouse for the iPad. But rather to bring the most important gestures down to the keyboard. So you don‘t have to reach for the screen every time.
Obviously, for this to work you would need a keyboard with a nearly flat surface. Like on the butterfly Macbooks (I know they are not very well-liked.) or on the Surface Touch Cover.
What do you think? Let me know on Twitter.
Update: Twitter user Manfred suggested that the space bar could be used for such gestures. Great idea! I made a quick video as well.
